Moviegoing Memories is a series of short interviews with filmmakers about going to the movies. Jessica Hausner's Little Joe is MUBI GO's Film of the Week of February 21, 2020.

NOTEBOOK: How would you describe your movie in the least amount of words?

JESSICA HAUSNER: A very self-controlled woman is torn between her motherhood and her professional life; she wants to be good in both.

NOTEBOOK: Where and what is your favorite movie theater? Why is it your favorite?

HAUSNER: The Film Museum in Vienna, when Alexander Horvath was the programmer there. His choice of films was always surprising and intriguing and he created a new context, in which the films could be seen differently, rather than in the usual historical film context.

NOTEBOOK: What is the most memorable movie screening of your life? Why is it memorable?

HAUSNER: Seeing The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie by Luis Buñuel when I was 16. I decided to become a filmmaker then.

NOTEBOOK: If you could choose one classic film to watch on the big screen, what would it be and why?

HAUSNER: Either Ben-Hur or Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey because I only saw those films on the small TV screen back then with my parents. I would like to go and see them with my son on a big screen.
