Our take

A prizewinner at the Cannes Quinzaine, this breakthrough film from Shahrbanoo Sadat (The Orphanage) is an ambitious and highly distinctive film fable, both an ethnographic, observational docudrama and a spellbinding, semi-autobiographical story of childhood in rural Afghanistan.
