  1. Chris DeFalco's rating of the film Wild Oranges

Beautiful location photography. A swamp that prefigures that of Ruby Gentry. Vidor is still working his way out from the melodrama of Griffith--and here comes as close as he'll get to Borzage--and the result is a wonderfully lurid southern gothic work featuring the best set piece and climax Vidor would compose until The Big Parade. Notable Vidor themes: regeneration through nature, metaphysical relationship to place.
