Our take

Jonathan Glazer warps Michel Faber’s source novel into a genre-bending, nightmarish film whose dystopian centre is an unsettling yet beautiful inky void. By subverting her sultry star persona, Scarlett Johansson and her alien gaze trigger male fear and question the very definition of being human.
