The plot might be to catch Buffalo Bill but Lecter is the glue that keeps this psychological horror together played excellently by Hopkins. There's an eerie fascination to be had with serial killers and in 91 we had a glimpse within their environment that can easily be living in your neighbourhood. It was the behind the curtain moment of the criminal investigation process to try and understand and hunt down a killer.
Introducing Dr. Hannibal Lecter, one of the most iconic movie character. The face of psycopath canibalism murder and any other torture method. Pertama nonton ini karena ngira thrillernya cuman sebatas gimana, yaudah sambil makan. And then shit happens yang bikin saya kehilangan nafsu makan seharian.
This thriller is one of the best not only because of the remarkable acting but because of the use of a cold atmosphere is the perfect access point for this bracingly American story. This cinematography really helped capture the chilling atmosphere in this thriller. Along with an eerie performance from Anthony Hopkins, this film is one movie you should watch in your lifetime.
a perfect movie, to me. what makes it stand above every other hannibal movie and most psychological thrillers in toto is the humanity demme finds in the film's monsters. this same property in the hands of a coldblooded technician (not naming any names) probably would have made a mint but wouldn't have resonated. the life, detail and compassion demme fills his characters (minor and major) with resonates
Have had a tumultuous ride with this movie, viewed too young and once responsible for steering an LSD trip into very bad territory. Viewed last night with fresh eyes - at least everything about Starling and Bill is remarkable. Foster provides this world something tender and sad, her humanity the obvious through line to the film's impact. Contrary to initial reaction, a queer lens enriches this for me a lot.
One of the movies that first turned me on to the art of film. It's a bold and intelligent thriller that goes for atmosphere and interesting characters over cheap scares. Every actor gives their A game and there are some scenes so brilliant that I could watch them a hundred times over. Everyone talks about Hopkins' performance, but Foster really gives us an emotional and vulnerable lead to follow.
Actually, I loved MANHUNTER more than this movie. But THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was also great too. It has its own moment. I really loved the atmosphere. The plot was gripping and also intense. Director Jonathan Demme really knew how to make his audience sit tight and watched it until it's end. The actors/actresses were marvelous. Jodie Foster is such a badass protagonist. Hopkins' Dr. Lecter was really menacing...
