Our take

One of the best studio films of the 2010s, The Lost City of Z is both about white colonialism and an indictment of it. Set in the Amazon, lavish imagery and a touch of classic Hollywood melodrama makes this a quintessential James Gray (Ad Astra) film, despite being his first away from New York.
