A wealthy landlord sets his eyes on the beautiful garden of a local peasant and demands the peasant sell it, which he’s unwilling to do – so the landlord tries to drive the gardener away.

A dark comedy set against the backdrop of an oppressive feudal set-up, this Tapan Sinha film makes great use of its fantasy-horror elements to comment on the social divisions in Indian villages. Featuring an evocative performance by playwright-actor Manoj Mitra as the titular Bancharam.
