Film particolarmente profondo, decisamente toccante.
A beautifully composed film that, perhaps in common with its source material, manages to turn something too painful to contemplate into an accessible and enriching experience, full of humour and real tenderness. If I have any reservations, it's that the balance goes too far towards the aesthetically pleasing at the expense of exploring further the sense of hopelessness in the first half.
Not sure if I can watch this. In 1999 my father rang and asked me back as he wasn't feeling well. I had just driven north to south to get home and a day or 2 later messages were out for me to contact as he was in hospital with a minor stroke. My fathers brain had exploded and life as we knew it was no more. Just gone. He was unable to express himself and the distress/disabilities were life changing. Challenging film.
A touching adaption of what could be difficult material, but the cinematography lifts the film to such heights. It is so intuitive and subjectively motivated - capturing the disorientation, wandering mind and creating empathy. The performances are brilliant and understated. It all culminates into a heartwarming reflection on life and its fleetingness.
