Our take

A Weimar melodrama by one of its true poets of the cinema, F.W. Murnau, Phantom was long thought lost, but now appears in a beautiful restoration. With its camera trickery and colour tinting, this silent gem can join Nosferatu, Faust, and The Last Laugh in the master’s dreamlike filmography.
