Our take

A late-career triumph for actor Baard Owe—young lover of Gertrud in Carl Dreyer’s masterwork—this droll comedy follows a train engineer’s adventures in retirement. Landing somewhere between Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati, Owe’s title character is a deadpan wonder. Fans of Roy Andersson will approve!
