Precious humanist account, down one peg due to heavy violence at the end, I felt for humans trapped in a blazing block it seemed with crazed teens determined to bomb their asses. Missed the opening but got there in time to see nasty cop roughing up girls at a bus stop for no reason than to show rookie cop who did what in the manor. Bleh attitude that cost a man a life and another poss an eye. Mubi Go cine restart 2
The movie opens with a rare unifying moment for the french nation. They just won the World Cup and a sea of whole different people has gathered on Champs-Élysées in a moment of pure joy,not overthinking the skin color and the religion of their heroes. "The next day", things turns back to usual; Montfermeil is filled again with hatred, racism and brutality. And the kids are the victims of this antisocial–ecosystem. 7.75
An incredible combination of "Training Day" and "La Haine". Still, it becomes one of the freshest, thrilling, original, and stylistic films ever. Sure, "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" should represent France for the Oscar. But, the ethnic diversity and moral ambiguity especially at the end of the movie is just mindbending. The movie feels like too tired, like you have trouble finding a place to rest and breathe first.
