TORMENT

Paul has just bought a charming waterfront hotel in France, putting himself in debt for the next 10 years. Setting to work with his wife, and a child soon on the way, Paul becomes suspicious of his partner after catching her in ambiguous situations with the hotel guests.

Henri-Georges Clouzot’s notorious script comes violently alive in Chabrol’s daring reworking, where the titillating heat of the summer coils into a vortex of destructive jealousy. Emmanuelle Béart magnificently commands the screen as the transgressive object of desire that exposes male hypocrisies.
