Synopsis

Eisenstein’s unfinished trilogy charts the rise to power and descent into terror of the dictatorial 16th century tsar. The second part depicts Ivan’s return to the throne and his ruthless opposition to the schemes of the boyars to keep Russia divided among its princes and foreign interests.
