Despite its uneven tonal fluctuation, the film is genuinely comical in a way that feels distinctly modern; even the physical humor, a touchstone of silent films for obvious reasons, includes sight gags that surpass those of any multiplex farce. Pickford has never been spunkier, for lack of a better word—her long-lashed beauty is balanced by those crazy eyes and limb-flailing tantrums during which its impossible to look at anything else.
