Our take

German director Volker Schlöndorff followed up his Oscar®- and Palme d’Or-winning classic The Tin Drum with this potent anti-war film. Long overshadowed by its predecessor, it remains a thoughtful and intense drama of global tension that, in the last 30 years, has only gotten more timely.
