Our take

With a wildly vivid style that captures New York criminal life in slow zooms and strobes, Belly is the hip-hop classic that was light years ahead of everything else. Hype Williams’s blistering debut gave the gangster film a much-needed shake-up, while showcasing music legends Nas, DMX and T-Boz.
