Portuguese master Manoel de Oliveira transforms this homage to Luis Buñuel’s surreal ’60s masterpiece Belle de Jour into a warm and melancholy film, starring Michel Piccoli and Bulle Ogier. An elegy to cinema, age & desire that is pure Oliveira: formalist, contemplative, and quietly brilliant.
