“An image that stuck in my head during production of I Heard the Owl Call My Name (1973)...I formed such respect for the natives and their community when we were shooting in one of their villages...It was so cold, I had to wear two shirts under my jacket...as I was shivering, some children from the village, maybe five or six years old, were playing in a puddle, splashing each other, wearing just loincloths. The cold didn't bother them and I'll never forget how strong--as a people--the natives were.”
