“I feel the cinematic medium has been really underutilized, mostly because it is a very expensive one – is hence, driven by market forces, which in turn are informed by instinctive life sustaining objectives – so, narratives of violence, sex, romance and conquest get multiplied over and over again, and more complex areas of inquiry and exploration get pushed out of the discourse. I can’t think of any other experience that triggers mirror neurons the way cinema does. The immediacy of the cinematic experience forces the audience to contemplate and seek answers. In that, it mirrors one of the functions of dreams and nightmares – to prepare the mind for eventualities. I feel if the Buddha was around, he would have used the medium of motion picture to share his worldview.”
