“I love Bergman a lot. And I had seen a film by Bergman called The Silence. It's with Ingrid Thulin, whom I absolutely adore as an actress. And I'd seen this amazing long scene with her in a train. In this whole film, they actually don't speak. And I find that it's very rare to have young directors who work on mystery. Of course, when you're an actor, speech is important. It's one of your media. And to have that medium cut off is very interesting, because - obviously - you have to express everything through your eyes and your gestures, and be credible. ”

    ANATOMY OF HELL

    Catherine Breillat France, 2004

Alert: Not for the faint-of-heart! Breillat approaches sex in ways no (male) filmmaker has ever done. Her unwavering exploration of femininity peaks in this loose sequel to Romance. Here she fearlessly blurs the line between porn and art—and casting porn legend Siffredi is just the beginning.

AGE OF UPRISING: THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL KOHLHAAS

    Arnaud des Pallières France, 2013

As gritty and austere as it is beautiful and explosive, Age of Uprising tells a sweeping story of personal justice coinciding with the decline of feudalism. Mads Mikkelsen’s brooding intensity matches the vengeful determination of the protagonist, resulting in a fiercely compelling performance.
